Through years of innovation and refinement, Ford engineers have devised a way to join military-grade, high-strength, aluminum-alloy body exterior panels to the F-Series and Super Duty high-strength steel frame. Innovative methods of material fastening were used, including self-piercing rivets, laser brazing, aluminum spot welding, and adhesives. Additionally, a process known as e-coating helps eliminate corrosion issues that are common with steel-to-aluminum contact. The result is improved strength and reduced weight compared to the previous-generation vehicle.
