Ford Motor Company officially debuted the all-new Electric Ford F-150 Lightning on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. While similar in interior and power to the current F-150, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning offers a variety of new features in an all-new model.
So, what’s all the hubbub? The Lightning is the second mass-market electric vehicle from Ford, after the Mustang Mach-E, and is expected to be one of the most powerful F-150s ever made. Also, it just looks cool. Besides the electricity-inspired tailgate lettering, the Ford Lightning truck has a rugged modern (and solid) grille insert with a light bar that stretches from headlight to headlight.
Ford F-150 Lightning Features
- Military-grade aluminum alloy body

What do we think is super cool about the new electric Ford Lightning pickup truck? In addition to driving it, you can power your house with it. Designed with Intelligent Backup Power, the Lightning can supply your house with power in the event of a blackout (with no cords attached) by providing up to 9.6 kW of output, which could last for up to three days. This works automatically when the Lightning is plugged in.
As of right now, the Lightning will be available in one body style (a four-door SuperCrew cab) and four trim models:
- Currently unnamed base model (base price is around $40,000)
- Mainstream XLT
- Lariat Platinum
- Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Available lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- Available adaptive cruise control
